Wireless Mic & Projector Rental for Guys and Dolls

Starting point: Most productions of Guys and Dolls need 14 to 16 wireless channels. Our starting point is the Standard 16-channel system, which covers the four leads and the featured gamblers. Guys and Dolls JR. usually fits in 12 to 16 channels.
This is our suggested starting configuration, not a requirement of the show or its licensor. Your count depends on your edition, your staging and your crew.
How we got to 16 channels
Guys and Dolls has four leads plus a group of gamblers and Mission members who sing featured lines. A typical plan:
-
Leads (4): Sky Masterson, Sarah Brown, Nathan Detroit, Miss Adelaide
-
Featured roles (8 to 10): Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Benny Southstreet, Rusty Charlie, Arvide Abernathy, Big Jule, Harry the Horse, Lt. Brannigan, General Cartwright
Cover the Hot Box Girls and crapshooters with area mics.
This count assumes: every listed role has its own transmitter; your venue covers big ensemble numbers with area or choir mics; and there are no pack swaps. Doubling roles or swapping packs lowers the count. Miking ensemble members individually raises it.
Doubling, pack swaps and your sound operator
Two actors can share a transmitter only if they are never on stage at the same time and a crew member has time offstage to move the pack, re-fit the mic and check it. Every channel also needs attention at the mixer: one operator following a marked script can run a show this size, but bring them into rehearsals before tech week.

Mic notes for Guys and Dolls
-
Fedoras: hats are everywhere; place hairline mics before the hats go on.
-
“Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat”: Nicely-Nicely leads with the full company; his mic needs to be rock solid.
-
Hot Box numbers: Adelaide and the Hot Box Girls have quick costume changes; plan pack placement for them.
-
Sewer crap game: dance on the deck: secure packs in mic belts.
