Wireless Mic & Projector Rental for Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde JR. at Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland

Starting point: Most productions of Legally Blonde need 16 to 20 wireless channels. Our starting point is the Standard 20-channel system, which covers the principals and the Greek Chorus. Legally Blonde JR. usually fits in 16 channels.

This is our suggested starting configuration, not a requirement of the show or its licensor. Your count depends on your edition, your staging and your crew.

How we got to 20 channels

Legally Blonde has a long list of featured roles who sing solo lines. A typical plan:

  • Principals (8): Elle, Emmett, Warner, Vivienne, Paulette, Callahan, Brooke, Kyle

  • Greek Chorus and Delta Nus (3 to 5): Serena, Margot, Pilar and featured Delta Nus

  • Featured roles (3 to 5): Enid, Elle’s parents, Kate, Chutney

Cover the Harvard students and Delta Nu ensemble with area mics.

This count assumes: every listed role has its own transmitter; your venue covers big ensemble numbers with area or choir mics; and there are no pack swaps. Doubling roles or swapping packs lowers the count. Miking ensemble members individually raises it.

Doubling, pack swaps and your sound operator

Two actors can share a transmitter only if they are never on stage at the same time and a crew member has time offstage to move the pack, re-fit the mic and check it. Every channel also needs attention at the mixer: one operator following a marked script can run a show this size, but bring them into rehearsals before tech week.

Mic notes for Legally Blonde

  • “Whipped Into Shape”: Brooke sings while jumping rope; use an earset and a snug mic belt.

  • Quick changes: Elle has many costume changes; give her a dresser who checks the pack every time.

  • Greek Chorus: they appear only in Elle’s imagination; label their channels together so the board op can bring them in as a group.

  • Bruiser and Rufus: if you use live dogs, keep cables out of reach.
